Inclement Weather Policy

From Roots to Wings Early Learning Center, the safety of our children and staff is our top priority. We understand that decisions to close, delay, or remain open during inclement weather impact family schedules. While we recognize the importance of consistency in care and education, safety considerations will always guide our decisions.
How Do We Make Our Decision?
Our decision to open, delay, or close during severe weather is based on a thorough evaluation of multiple factors, including:
- Road conditions reported by local transportation and law enforcement agencies.
- Accumulation of snow and/or ice.
- Forecasted weather conditions, including continued precipitation, temperature, and wind chill.
- Storm timing, trajectory, and predictions from weather services.
- Building conditions (e.g., power and heat availability).
- Parking lot safety and accessibility.
Generally, From Roots to Wings will follow local school district and government closure decisions. However, we may make independent determinations based on specific conditions affecting our center. Please check
our website and the Brightwheel app for the latest updates.
Who Makes the Decision?
The final decision rests with our center’s leadership team. We may also consult with other childcare centers, monitor updates from our snow removal service, and assess road conditions before making a determination.
When Will the Decision Be Made?
We aim to provide families with as much notice as possible. Decisions will typically be made:
- The night before whenever possible.
- By 4:30 AM in uncertain weather conditions.
Once a decision is made, updates will be communicated via:

What If Weather Conditions Worsen?
If conditions deteriorate
after the center has already opened, we may need to
close early for the safety of staff and families. We will notify parents as soon as possible through all available communication channels.
We encourage families to:
- Have emergency backup plans in place for early closures.
- Allow extra travel time for safe pick-ups.
If at any time you feel it is unsafe for your child to attend, please
use your best judgment. We strive to remain flexible in these situations and understand that every family must make the best decision for their circumstances.
